How do I host a web site with my home computer?

Is there a way I can turn my home computer into a server for a website...it wont need a lot of bandwith just a small low traffic site.

Certainly. You need to register a domain name and set up your box as a web server. For that, you can use Microsoft%26#039;s IIS or Apache to make it easy.

Domain Name: do a search for domain name providers. Godaddy.com is a domain name provider for example.

Server: if you are new to setting up a server I recommend XAMPP http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.ht...

This installs apache, mysql, php, etc.. that you might need

If you have a static IP address you won%26#039;t have a problem. If you do not you might want to look into getting one.

Other Replys:I%26#039;ll go into a bit more detail.

To download Apache, go to:

http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi

During installation, once it asks you for your domain and e-mail address, just leave it blank.

Once you have installed Apache, go into your web browser and type in %26quot;localhost.%26quot; If an Apache webpage appears, that means that you have successfully installed it. In order for other people to see it, you must type in your IP address of your computer to access the site. (By the way, to administer your site, go into the C drive, then click on Apache2, then finally, click on htdocs and you should find your index files. This is where all of your files of your webpage are going.)

To find the IP address of your computer to share with friends, go to:

Now, to get a domain for your website, you can purchase it and have it point to your IP address. You can find services that point a custom domain at:
