What would it take to build a website like myspace?

hi! i have a plan to build a website exactly like Myspace and hi5, and ive been wondering how it is to come about building this site. Should i use a web host or a web server? or do i contact yahoo or msn and explain my plans? am confused lol

To build site similar to the ones you list, you need money.

Myspace, Yahoo, MSN and all these other sites use special servers that handle terrabytes of data. Plus, they are using T3 connections (expensive Internet access). You will also need routers, switches and other hardware to handle the traffic.

Webhosting or Web server sites limit you to a certain amount of disk space. Not nearly enough to create a large site like the ones you mention. You can start out small on one of these sites, but once you do go big, that will be a lot of data to transfer to your own Servers.
