I have bought a site but what does this mean;
A domain name with Linux-based web hosting and email services.
Please help,
Thanks!
I have bought a website but i dont know what this means.....?
It means you now own a website on the web CONGRATS you can get frontpage or a free webite editor to upload to their server and veiw it anyware in the world for instance yahoo.com is a domain name so YOU own it you can sell it for $$$$$. But if this was a mistake you can cancel the service and the linux means the website is hosted on a Linux Server. And when you type in the website name your computer asks for the .html file or the webpage your on right now is on a yahoo server :) Plus if you have server software or xp pro you should be able to host it ON YOUR computer.

It means you have purchased a domain name with web space which is stored on a Linux server (linux is an operating system in the same way that Windows or Mac OS X are operating systems) and you have an email address or addresses that you can use along with that web space.
Other Replys:Yes, the previous two answers are accurate.
A domain name is the www.ThisIsMyDomainName.com. Linux is the operating system running on the web server. An email service is a piece of software that allows you to send %26amp; receive mail (sorry if that is stating the obvious!).
The reason the ISP wants to highlight the fact that it%26#039;s a Linux server, as opposed to a Microsoft Windows based server, is that it places certain restrictions on you from a web development point of view. For example, you won%26#039;t be able to run a website developed in ASP.Net, because this is a Microsoft technology. Also, you are unlikely to get the easy database adaptors to connect to SQL Server - if this sort of thing is important for you. If you%26#039;re just after web space to run a simple website, using open-source technologies (like PHP for example), Linux is a great choice. It%26#039;s very stable, and usually a lot cheaper than a Windows environment. Hope this clears it up a bit.
Other Replys:It means you have not really researched it before you bought it..
I think its a fab idea for everyone to have... however use it wisely... maybe you can make money from it... maybe you should ask people on here how you can make money from your website... its sounds stupid but i hurd once that a guy... swapped a paper clip with somany different things till he got a million pound house... so research your stuff a bit more
Other Replys:Sounds like you are getting a domain name with hosting and the hosts servers use Linux as the OS, which IMHO, is the better way to go.

Other Replys:Linux is just another server just like Windows. The reaon this is highlighted is because generally this would be hosted on a Windows server tbh. you re very restricted with what you can do with a linux server even if you had a pro web designer sorting your site out.
If you do not know what this means now then what chance have you got? LOL
