Can I point two domain names to the same DNS name server?

I have 2 domain names that I want to point to the same web host. I have 1 of them pointed to the DNS name server and it is working. The other is pointed to the same DNS name server but it gives me a 404 error: The page cannot be found. It%26#039;s been over 12 hours since I set the DNS name server on that domain name.

It seems like this should work. Does something about the Internet (or maybe my web host) not allow this?

Yes you can point 2 domain names to the same host. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that there should be 2 different accounts for the 2 domain names on your host.

2 hosting accounts for 2 different domain names on 1 server. This is usually practiced as Share Hosting or Reseller Hosting.

Hi!

If you are using a free hosting service you should know that most such services do not allow 2 domains to have the same DNS server.

Good luck!

Other Replys:as long as you have the same DNS as your start of authority (SOA) then yes it should work. In your internic account such as networksolutions.com or godaddy.com you need to have that webhost set as your SOA provider. Then that provider needs DNS records setup of course.

You can do a whois and verify. Also make sure the 404 error is a DNS issue and not an actual %26quot;page not found%26quot; such as no default home page or wrong page.
