How can I develop a db-driven website in ASP.NET without buying db server software?

I%26#039;m building a website in ASP.NET VB (not going to change language at this point), and I%26#039;d like to interact with either MS SQL server or MySQL. In developing the site, I need to test my code locally before deploying on the internet. How can I achieve this without paying for the same software that will be used by the web hosting server? Can I download MS SQL Server Compact Edition, code to that, then just upload to a site using SQL Server? Or is there some way to develop for free with MySQL?

The free database engines from Microsoft are fully compatible with SQL server, the only differences are the supplied tools, the maximum database size and the number of connections.

MySQL is free so you can download and install exactly the same software as used by your web host.

You can download SQL Server Express edition for free from microsoft. If you have the express edition of visual web developer then I believe that you have it already. In any case you can download it seperately. You can get it at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/express...

Help!!!Question about building a Website!!!!!?

I have just learned how to write JavaScript code and I am working on building a website. At this point I have all my pages designed. My question is once I purchase a Web Hosting Plan , will I be able to store all my Images in there along with my webpages as long as I purchase enough space needed? Not sure if this makes sense to yous guys so if you need clarification just ask. Keep in mind I am a beginner. Thanks any feedback is appreciated.

Help!!!Question about building a Website!!!!!?

Yes darling, once you purchase a hosting plan, you can copy all your files into your hosting companys server and bingo you are ready to fly, as long as you name your home page index.htm tho.

I think most of them comes with an average of 100mb of space, even for the most basic packages and I%26#039;m sure your website shouldnt be more that 5meg at the most since you say you are a beginner so I guess you have all the space in the world.

But when you register, you have to do your domain first, then the hosting. The domain is the naming procedure i.e www.whatever.com and if this is just the one you do, you cant upload anyfiles in there. The hosting is the one that actually allows you to upload the files to the server.

I hope this answers your question.

Cheers

Yes.

Other Replys:Yes. You can store images that aren%26#039;t even beig used by your website. But keep in mind, they could still be accessed unless you make the image folder private.

How long does it take for my credit card payment to be processed?

Hello. I made a payment by credit card for a web hosting service. It didn%26#039;t return any error, and I even received my confirmation email. However, I cannot use the service yet because it says my order is still being processed. How long does such an order usually take to be processed? Thanks!.

How long does it take for my credit card payment to be processed?

I%26#039;m actually willing to bet that the portion of your order that is being processed is the actual inception of your service rather than the transaction itself.

Depending on what services you purchased, there are certain things that the company you paid for hosting services has to do to get your URL up for you to start uploading to. The transaction itself should have been authorized immediately even if it was not settled.

When a purchase is made with a credit card it is usually immediately authorized but is not settled until the end of the business day. Most of the purchases that you make are not fully processed until well after you walk out of the door with your goods or services.

The bad news here is that you are at the mercy of the company you are dealing with as to when you can use your services. If you feel that you have waited too long you should inform this company that you are going to dispute the transaction if they do not start up your service or give you an acceptable timetable.

How long does it take for my credit card payment to be processed?

3 business days on the average. sometimes 2. on a rare occasion it can take 4. if afer 5 you have not finished transaction check with your bank. if it has posted with them then contact the web hosting service and inform them. you may need to file a claim if it is not resolved withing 6 business days. key word is still business days. I get calls all day long of people asking why something did not process on the weekend. thats because weekends and holidays don%26#039;t count for processing, evern if the banking center is opened.

Email storage size?

what is a good email storage size? is see on go daddy they offer 25MB

1000MB

2000MB

getting a personal domain and using for work email and personal stuff , maybe some pics and jokes (vids) from friends

what is web hosting?

all help is great!

Email storage size?

Yahoo! Mail has unlimited storage. Web hosting means that they let you have a web page.

Email storage size?

1000 MB would best suit this.

If you get a webhost, and create e-mail accounts from there, that would be even better.

Other Replys:I%26#039;m assuming you do not know a lot when I answer this. So if you do, I%26#039;m sorry for being elementary.

For your email, you can have a free online account or you can get a website and have a %26quot;personal domain%26quot;. The personal domain can also be accessed online from anywhere or directly on your pc.

Best bets for free account are gmail (2 gb free) hotmail (2gb free) or yahoo (unlimited ? free).

If you pay a webhost a monthly fee you can have a domain like lpi01t.com. Yikes

Then you could have an email address like ferdinand@lpi01t.com

If you do this, you can have the email that people send to you there, forwarded to a free account. So there is no need for a large storage size.

Hope this helps.

Other Replys:Yahoo literally has unlimited storage and has tech support and all the bells and whistles.

Network of Dedicated Servers?

I am looking for a number of servers (say 40 dedicated machines) each with their own IP, not in the same IP address range, spread around the world. It can be Linux of windows PCs. Does anyone know of a good solution or service for this? I have looked into EC2 from Amazon but they do not have the support I need. Ideas?

Note: I am not looking for caching services or exclusively web hosting. The machines should have different external IPs, possibly different locations and also be able to run desktop windows applications.

Network of Dedicated Servers?

Might want to team up with someone else on this (I mean this as in someone who specializes in running servers for other people in different parts of the world.). It%26#039;s not easy to run a totally fresh IP. You have to essentially be in different locations.

Prevents people from hacking on the go.. And then going into another area to change their IP address to avoid detection.

Network of Dedicated Servers?

Not knowing what you are trying to accomplish, that%26#039;s a very difficult question to answer. Are they doing failover and redundancy? Load balancing? Different tasks completely?

Personally I think that the OS is not the solution, although Linux is more scalable and will perform better. But you will most likely need a solution running on Linux that provides the desired outcome.

Other Replys:It%26#039;s a bit difficult to answer when we don%26#039;t know what you%26#039;re trying to use the servers for.

Clustering doesn%26#039;t seem to fit your scenario, as you want them all stand-alone.

I%26#039;m sure there are several expensive third-party solutions. However, why don%26#039;t you host your own public DNS records? You can then create DNS records pointing to various public IP address for each server, if each hosts a different application. As Ip addresses change, y ou can edit DNS on your own server at will.

If multiple servers will be hosting the same services, you can load-balance by setting up a front-end server that the DNS records point to, then have that server redirect clients to the IP addresses of your various servers in round-robin fashion, or however you like.

Other Replys:You can get dedicated servers at http://www.doggydomains.com and they come with separate IPs but I don%26#039;t know about the ranges.

Other Replys:I don%26#039;t know how to start my answer...

first of all.. u need 40 IP (FIX IP) so all u need just fine the ISP that provide u the leased line only,,,

Second, u need a caching services or web hosting? Why?

coz.. u already got your own FIX IP.. just use it my friend..

if u need caching services.. then just install squid at your Linux Box... for the web hosting... why don%26#039;t u host by your own... just install apache and bind (DNS) only.... and both your problem solved already..

ok then u need to remote all your machine.. just use FreeNX. It%26#039;s a open source based.. no need to worry about licensing... this what we called freedom... ;-p

Webhosting with every thing unlimited?

here one of the best

http://www.ait.com

Other Replys:Try http://www.1and1.com / http://www.1and1.co.uk - their packages give you more than enough webspace %26amp; bandwidth

Other Replys:Servers are like ordinary computers too, with limited hard disk space. Lol.

Most of the webhosting company offering %26quot;unlimited%26quot; services are not reliable, whenever they exceed their bandwidth limit in their data center your website will be down.

Unlimited email accounts and subdomains is possible. but not unlimited disk space and bandwidth. If you read their terms of service you will see there that they do not allow you to upload certain file types like mp3s, videos, etc, they also do not allow video streaming.

Other Replys:It is very unlikely that you will ever need unlinited everything, you need to look at the type of website that you want and to be safe go for a very high spec hosting package that is much cheaper than unlimited. I was in the same position and I went for http://www.4clickdesigns.com/ it works fine for me.

Enjoy!
